Performance

How much horsepower increase will be achieved with the Streamline® SE filter?
Horsepower is increased
typically around 3-5 hp to the rear wheels with this panel filter. However, some applications such as for the BMW N54 Twin Turbo engine have shown much better results. Restriction levels are decreased on average 20% and this improvement in engine respiration will allow your engine to get the air it needs easier and quicker.  You will notice how more smoothly the engine revs up to speed and the improved throttle response with less lag.  Most Streamline® SE filter users are pleasantly surprised with the performance improvement and have also noticed a subtle yet deeper tone to the intake sound from within the cabin.  This change provides audible feedback adding to the pleasure of driving your high performance vehicle.

Is the Streamline® SE the same filter as the "Streamline Engineering"?
Yes, they are the same exact filters.  Helene Performance now sells the filter line formerly known as "Streamline Engineering".  In fact the "SE" part of the name is a sort of tribute to this filter's heritage and legacy.

What makes the Streamline® SE better then the competition?
To highlight a few reasons: Twice as many cotton plies; superior one-piece sealing surface ensures leak free installation; Tested to ISO 5011 standards; deeper pleats; precisely oiled by robots at the factory; matches OEM 99% filtration efficiency; captures and retains particles as small as 1 micron.

Installation

How difficult is installation and what tools are needed?
In most cases, all that is required to install the Streamline® SE panel filter is a screwdriver and shop rag.  The installation of a OEM replacement panel filter is probably the easiest and safest tweak that can be made to any high performance vehicle.  What is unique about this filter is that instead of clumsily dropping it into the air box, we recommend you place the filter into the air box lid (which ensures the sealing rim surfaces are properly seated) and then placing this lid assembly down into the air box.  This method has proved to be the easiest due to the filter's substantial sealing rim configuration.  NEVER trim the sealing rims to facilitate installation.  Instructions are included for each application.

Maintenance

How often Should the Streamline® SE panel and cone filters be cleaned?
The generally accepted best practice is to inspect the filter approximately every 4,000 miles or each oil change, at which point the filter should be removed from the air box and inspected for lodged debris such as ingested insects.  The air box should be wiped with a clean lint free cloth and the filter should be gently tapped to dislodge any loose debris. When the accumulation of dirt is just over the flush point with the wire mesh, the filter should be cleaned and restored with the Helene Performance cleaning kit.  This filter can go as long as 30,000 miles between cleanings, however, a dirtier filter will not flow as well nor provide as good fuel efficiency as a clean filter.

Will the Streamline® SE filter damage my mass air flow sensor (MAF)?
A properly oiled filter should never damage the mass air sensor.  Over oiling has been attributed to some incidents of damage.  The Streamline® SE filter is precisely oiled at the factory with computer controlled robots that apply an exact amount of oil specific to each vehicle application.  When you receive your filter, you will notice how dry the packaging is which should be your assurance that this filter is safe to install and enjoy!

Testing

What is the ISO 5011 test?
The ISO (International Organization for Standardization) establishes and specifies uniform test procedures, conditions, equipment and a performance report to permit direct laboratory performance comparison of air filters and induction systems.

The basic performance characteristics of greatest interest are air flow restriction or differential pressure, dust collection effciency, dust capacity, and oil carry-over on oil bath air cleaners. This test code therefore deals with the measurement of these parameters

Why should I care if a filter has been ISO 5011 tested?
Testing to these high standards enables us to accurately measure our products against not only OEM equipment, but also to the competition.  This testing standard is very stringent and not all filter manufacturers abide to these test standards. Many manufacturers only flow test their filters which does not measure the level of protection the filter will provide against dust and debris collection. If you care about the longevity of your engine, you should only use a filter tested to this ISO standard!

Will a Streamline® SE filter protect my car from dust and dirt?
Yes, the HP filter has been tested to the ISO 5011 standards and is rated at 99% filtering efficiency and will capture particles as small as 1 micron.  This matches, and in some cases, exceeds the OEM paper filter.  The Streamline® SE filter also provides a superior seal in the air box lid which is a common source of dirt infiltration with other filters.  HP filters are tested to the maximum air flow of the engine since it becomes increasingly difficult to protect the engine at higher RPM's. For a high tolerance engine such as the S54, this is critical!

Legal

Will the Streamline® SE filter void my factory warranty?
The short answer is no. The
Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act prevents a manufacturer from voiding your warranty because you used an air filter other than the one specified by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).

Are Streamline® SE filters emissions legal?
All Streamline® SE panel and cone filters are 50-state emissions legal.

Other Questions

Should I be concerned if there is urethane coverage on the end pleats?
These filters are custom made by hand in small batches and are not mass produced.  While they exhibit superior overall build quality, it is inevitable that some filters will have small amounts of urethane spill over at the end pleats.  Helene Performance specifications have taking this into account with increased number of pleats in each panel to ensure your engine will get the air flow it needs.  The Streamline® SE filter has deeper pleats and more of them to provide higher performance for your engine.  Any coverage will only effect the aesthetics and will not hinder the flow characteristics of the filter nor engine performance.

Why is the Streamline® SE filter more expensive then other aftermarket brands?
A lot of research and development has gone into this filter to assure that it provides the most performance available from such a relatively inexpensive and safe modification.  The Streamline® SE panel filter has been extensively tested to assure that it protects as well as it performs for your peace of mind.  This is not just another universal fit mass produced filter.  It is produced in small runs and is a custom designed filter utilizing only the finest engineering grade materials available.  The first time you see and feel this filter, you will agree that it is superior not only in performance and protection, but also in the quality of build.
